Congratulations to the 2004 Holy Cross Alumni Softball Tournament Champions of their respective brackets; classes of '81 and '94!   The class of '81 avenged an earlier loss to '86 to win the old guys bracket and '94 got a scare from '95, but rolled through undefeated beating '03 to win their 7th championship in 11 years.

I think I've got the classes labeled correctly. Let me know if I don't. I missed the class of '90 completely, so if you guys are out there and you've got a team/group photo, send it to me. Also, if the classes of '88, '96, and '99 have a photo with more of your players, send it in. I know it's tough to stick around after going 1-2-barbecue (I kid because I care).

If you've got photos of the tournament you'd like to share, send them to: jarguello@holycrossknights.com

*Thank you Chuck from '88 for sending the group photo.

The 2004 Tournament Story

The 2004 version of the Holy Cross Alumni Tournament is finished. Bodies got scraped, muscles sometimes cramped, but we got up and kept playing. No matter the outcome, we always shook hands.

Many runs were scored and great plays made. Sometimes the ball went where we wanted. Sometimes it didn't. And sometimes it didn't go anywhere at all.

Some teams reached their goal. And some came up a bit short. The reward for making the show? A great crowd. The penalty for losing in the first round? A not so great crowd. But some just couldn't care less.

The younger guys were running all over the place. The older guys paced themselves.

There were barbecue masters. And barbecue rookies (True Story: When I came up on these guys from '96, they were in the process of stomping on the small crate you see in the background of this picture to use for firewood. Next year someone please explain the magic of charcoal to these guys).

But in the end, the tournament is about friends...and family...coming together...to reminisce, compete, bond together, and sing the song, one more time.

[I know, I didn't get the whole song. Next year I promise to have a bigger memory card in my camera.]
