Academic Mission Statement
In todays fast paced world of education, the competition for standards of
excellence has become fierce, both in the public and private sectors. In an effort to
maintain a reputation for excellence in all areas, Holy Cross of San Antonio provides a
holistic education to all of its students based on the vision of Father Basil Moreau.
In addition to the realms of the physical, spiritual, and social, the students at Holy
Cross need to be equipped intellectually to handle the demands of an evolving, chaotic,
and complex world. Accordingly, the overarching academic vision of the school, from grades
six through twelve, is a well-rounded, rigorous curriculum that has real-world
application, and is grounded in the teachings of the Catholic Church. The curriculum will
provide for the education of each students heart based on Father Moreaus insistence
that [s}ociety has a greater need for people of values than it does of
scholars. While this in no way implies the neglect of scholarship, on the contrary
each student will be provided with an education that promotes excellent habits of mind
that are defined by a moral and spiritual vision that allows for the cultivation of habits
of virtue and an informed conscience.
As a result of each students full and intentional cooperation with the goals of
the curriculum here at Holy Cross, it is hoped that they will be better equipped to handle
the challenges of each content area across all grade levels, will possess expanded
knowledge and skills, and will be well prepared for the challenges of any college or
university program. Important Links: Curriculum Goals Course Offerings (grades 6-12) |
