Knights Handle Business in Corpus

Recapping Holy Cross’ 51-2 win vs CC John Paul II

by Jacob Bermudez ('25) on October 12, 2025

Holy Cross treated their Friday night trip to Corpus Christi like exactly what it was — a
business trip. And they handled business in a dominant fashion.

The Knights extended their win streak to five with a commanding 51-2 win over John
Paul II, improving to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in district play. From the opening drive, Holy Cross
looked locked in and in control, building a 23-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and never
looking back.

Senior running back Taylor Flores set the tone again, breaking off big runs and punching
in an early touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Rocky Orozco had another efficient night,
completing 8 of 13 passes for 125 yards and four touchdowns, spreading the ball around to his
playmakers. Senior JR Salas caught two scores, while sophomore Crew Hudson and senior
Johnathan Perez each hauled in one. On the ground, JJ Acosta added a 17-yard touchdown
run, and Flores finished with 113 yards on just eight carries.

Holy Cross dominated in all phases: offensively, defensively, and on special teams. The
defense forced two interceptions, including a 30-yard pick-six by senior Aiden Olivares, and
allowed just 19 rushing yards the entire game. The Centurions’ only points came on a
fourth-quarter safety.

After the game, senior JJ Acosta spoke about what made the win special beyond the scoreboard:

“This game was very fun because we got to see all of our guys play, those JV guys
who work all week just like us,” Acosta said. “They got to play, and we got to have
a good team win. So it was good.”

Acosta also reflected on what nights like this mean for a team building toward the postseason.

“We’ve dealt with a lot of injuries, and that’s helped us. Guys have stepped up and
done their part,” he said. “It strengthens us as a team because we know if someone
goes down, we have another guy coming up. But the momentum from this game
definitely helps us in the next game.”

That next matchup will be one of the toughest tests of the year as the Knights take on Dallas
First Baptist in a neutral-site game at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Crusader
Stadium.

But for now, Holy Cross heads home from Corpus with another statement win; focused,
efficient, and all business.
