Dear Holy Cross students,
It is with great excitement that Ms. Melissa Romero joins the Holy Cross family as your Guidance Counselor this new school year! Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, she graduated from Providence Catholic High School and continued with her studies at St. Mary’s University. While at St. Mary’s, she received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Language as well as a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and continued on with her professional career in higher education.
As she begins to prepare for your arrival to campus this August, she has kept in mind the words of Blessed Basile Moreau, “we do not want our students to be ignorant of anything they should know. To this end, we shall shrink from no sacrifice”. With that said, this summer she has put together many tools and resources to help you prepare for success in academics, college, career, and life. As your counselor, her goals are to serve and support you in the areas of academic counseling, personal counseling, college preparation, social emotional learning, and the development of interpersonal skills. In addition to supporting students, she will also serve as a resource for parents, teachers, and administrators at Holy Cross.
At the start of the school year, she will introduce students and parents to the new tools and resources available and will provide an overview of the following expectations for students:
- Defining academic goals
- Learn effective decision making skills
- Importance of collaboration and team building
- Understanding your unique learning style
- Understanding your strengths and identify areas for improvement
- Defining your career goals
- Becoming efficient with college search tools available through Naviance
- Importance of Empathy, Self-awareness, Respect, Motivation
Prior to the first day of class, she encourages you to review the “Counselor’s Corner” section on the Holy Cross website and to contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions that you may have in the meantime. Ms. Romero is looking forward to welcoming all of the students back to school and is excited about working with everyone throughout the year! Go Knights!
