Knights Rise in Boerne

Recapping Holy Cross’ 46-14 win vs Boerne Geneva

by Jacob Bermudez ('25)

Friday night in Boerne, Holy Cross rose above the noise, the pressure, and one of their toughest district opponents. The Knights powered past Geneva 46-14 in a statement win that showed just how formidable this team is becoming.

From the start, the Knights set the tone. Senior running back Taylor Flores punched in two first-quarter touchdowns and added another in the second, finishing with 129 yards and 3 touchdowns on 17 carries. His performance earned him Player of the Game and even a San Antonio Gunslingers Player of the Week nomination.

Geneva didn't go quietly, tying things up twice in the first half behind quarterback Caleb Quitadamo, who threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns. But Holy Cross’s defense locked in after that, forcing five interceptions and shutting down the Eagles out for the rest of the night.

Just before halftime, sophomore quarterback Rocky Orozco muscled in a rushing touchdown to give the Knights a 27-14 lead. From there, Holy Cross never looked back. Orozco put together yet again, another great game, completing 8 of 12 passing for 190 yards and a passing touchdown, plus 53 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.

The Knights kept adding to it in the second half. Orozco connected with Julian “J.R.” Salas on a 24-yard touchdown in the third quarter, then broke loose for a 35-yard score in the fourth. Moments later, J.J. Acosta iced it with a 71-yard touchdown run, putting the game out of reach and sending the Knights home with a big district win.

While Geneva found some success through the air, they couldn't keep up with Holy Cross’s balance. The Knights racked up 259 yards rushing and 190 passing, showing they could beat the Eagles in several ways.

With the win, Holy Cross improves to 4-2, 2-0 in district play and takes the driver's seat in the district race. It's now four straight victories for the Knights, who are hitting their stride with Flores powering the run game, Orozco spreading the ball around, and a defense that thrives on big plays.

Friday night wasn't just about the score; it was about a team that keeps rising to the moment. And in Boerne, the Knights rose higher than ever.
