One Last Home Stand
Previewing Holy Cross vs JP II Schertz
Friday night at The 426 will be different. For Holy Cross, it’s not just another district matchup; it’s Senior Night, the final home game of the season, and a chance to take one step closer to the playoffs.
With so much on the line, the Knights face off against John Paul II–Schertz in a game full of meaning and emotion. For the 19 seniors who will take the field one last time in front of their home crowd, it’s a moment to reflect on the journey: the long practices, the late nights, the adversity, and the pride of wearing Holy Cross across their chests.
That pride has powered the Knights all season long. Senior running back Taylor Flores has been the heart of the offense, rushing for 1,053 yards and 11 touchdowns, setting the tone with his physical running style and steady leadership. Sophomore quarterback Rocky Orozco continues to command the huddle, throwing for over 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns, giving the Knights a balanced, confident rhythm through the air and on the ground.
The Knights have found plenty of playmakers in the passing game. Senior Julian “J.R.” Salas has been a consistent spark, leading the team with 393 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, while sophomore Crew Hudson provides another big-play threat, averaging nearly 26 yards per catch. Together, they’ve helped fuel an offense averaging more than 280 total yards per game.
Defensively, Holy Cross has built a reputation for creating pressure and forcing turnovers, something that will be key against a JPII offense that thrives on timing and rhythm. The battle up front will likely decide this one, and Holy Cross’s physicality could once again prove to be their edge.
But beyond the numbers, it’s the bond that defines this team, a brotherhood forged through years of commitment and sacrifice. Every rep in practice, every bus ride, and every fourth-quarter drive has been shaped by belief in one another. That mentality, grounded in toughness, unity, and heart, is what makes this group special.
As the lights shine down on The 426 one final time this regular season, the Knights will look to defend their home field and honor their seniors. Every snap, every tackle, and every cheer from the crowd will carry a little extra weight.
Because this is more than a game. It’s one last home stand.
